That's a good question. One we should each answer!
The lovable and beloved comedian Jack Benny once announced, "I
lack only one quality of a great actor. I'm slightly hard of
hearing -- the result of so much deafening applause, y'know."
Wouldn't that be a wonderful problem to have? But the reality is
that we don't get much applause. People are often quicker to
criticize than to compliment, and even those closest to us may
not regularly applaud our efforts.
Actress Carol Burnette's mother was a woman who was often too
quick to criticize. Carol wanted to be a journalist. But after
entering college, she found herself gravitating toward the
theater. Her mother disapproved. "Stick to journalism," she said,
adding caustically, "No matter what you look like, you can always
write."
Thank goodness she didn't listen. She knew who she was and did
not let anyone deter her -- even someone as close as her mother.
So...just who do you think you are? Others may not validate you,
but can you validate yourself? Do you see your strengths? Do you
know your potential?
If you think you are only what others may convey, you are likely
short-changing yourself. For you are a beautiful creation, worthy
of great esteem. Do you value yourself properly?
Just who do you think you are? It is a question we each must
answer. Consider it well, for it may be one of the most important
questions of your life.
